Phonics will be covered in relation to your child's individual schools phonics programme.
Individual phonics needs will be assessed and a programme of study relevant to your child will be established .Children will gain fluency and confidence in order to complete the Phonics Screening Test to the best of their ability.
Each child in Year 1 /Year 2 will participate in a Phonics Screening Test as part of the governments requirements at the beginning of June. Children are assessed on their reading (decode) of 40 words, some of which are real words and some which are pseudo-words.
Literacy skills can be covered as a whole subject in all areas as directed, in relation to the National Curriculum. Specific areas can also be targeted to further aid understanding and enhance students confidence.
Handwriting skills in line with your child's school policy can be adhered to, although cursive handwriting has been proven to aid phonics and spelling knowledge.
